Son Of ManThe term "Son of Man" is according to Wikipedia, a Semitic idiom believed to have originated in Mesopotamia, which is used to denote or refer to oneself or to one's own humanity. It is usually remembered best as used by Jesus(Mark 8:38; Luke 12:8-9; Matt.10:23, 16:28 & 19:28) in reference to himself in association with the Old Testament passage in Daniel 7:13. Although according to Alan Segal in his book Rebecca's Children, the Church, by using this term "son of man" leave us in a quandry because of the way these passages were interpreted to have had apocalyptic fulfillment as even yet unrealized. Therefore Segal posits that Jesus was perhaps not referring to himself, but only to the Danielic passage and that Jesus' own meaning and use of the term is "impossible to decipher."
