Ringgren FQ 1963Helmer Ringgren, The Faith of Qumran, (Philadelphia: Fortress Press, 1963).
This book is an excellent source for anyone who wishes to learn more about the community at Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, or the theology of the community which the scrolls are attributed to. The book is very readable and well-written. There are also many footnotes which can lead the reader to discover limitless information concerning Judaism, the scriptures, the community at Qumran, and the time period in which the scrolls were composed. The chapters are divided on the basis of major themes found within the scrolls and individual scrolls themselves, if they merit longer discussion.
While this is a great source, the reader should keep in mind that the book is over forty years old and contains none of the modern knowledge or theories about the scrolls or the community at Qumran. However, one should not let that reduce this source's credibility. It remains as a great introduction to the study of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
