Neusner JCAC 1987Jacob Neusner. Judaism and Christianity in the Age of Constantine. (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1987).
In this book, Neusner makes the claim that important political events in the 4th century created a substantial dialogue between Christians and Jews. The text documents the time of Constantine's conversion to Christianity and the end of the Jewish Patriarchate in Israel. Neusner uses the primary texts of Genesis Rabbah?, Leviticus Rabbah?, Aphrahat, Eusebius, Jerome, and John Chrysostom to discuss the history, the role of the Messiah, the identification of Israel, and the politics of the time.
Neusner adds to the end of the book a very helpful appendix which includes relevant pasages from English translations of the Genesis Rabbah?, Leviticus Rabbah?, and Aphrahat.
