Nero was the Emperor of Rome from 54 - 68 CE. He was the fifth emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. Nero had many accomplishments as an emperor such as diplomacy, economics, and building. However, biblically he most known for his oppression of the Christians and he blamed them for the burning of Rome. Also the First Jewish War began during Nero's reign, though it did not end until after his death. Nero converted to Judaism around 66 CE to in order to keep God from punishing him. It is said that Nero committed suicide when he was driven out by a military coup. (for more see Encyclopedia of Roman Emperors)
