Frend RC 1984W.H.C. Frend, The Rise of Christianity, (Philadelphia: Fortress Press, 1984).
This large, extensive, and very technical and advanced book covers the first 600 years of Christian history in great detail. It also gives its reader a great deal of information about the Jewish context of the rise of Christianity in its first chapter entitled The Jewish Background. Another chapter that might interest someone who is focusing specifically on Jewish-Christian relations in the first century CE is chapter four entitled The Christian Synagogue which covers the time period between the fall of Jerusalem in 70 CE to the second Jewish war in 135 CE. There are also many Christianity-specific chapters which cover topics such as the religion's interaction with certain Roman emperors and internal conflicts within the new religion. This book would be a great resource for anyone who wishes to learn more about Jewish Christianity in the early years of the Christian faith or the person who wishes to learn more about the Christian religion in the first 600 years of the common era.
