Crawford PPJ 1978Barry Crawford, "Review: Paul and Palestinian Judaism: A Comparison of Patterns of Religion." by E.P. Sanders Journal of the American Academy of Religion 46:2 (1978) 209-210.
Crawford's review discusses that Sanders had two goals in his comparison of patterns of religion. One was to argue that Palestinian Judaism is not just about legalistics and the other is to talk about Paul's religion. This book uses many different Biblical works such as The Dead Sea Scrolls, the Apocrypha, and the Pseudepigrapha. Crawford says that "[Sanders] exposition of Tannaitic literature is nothing short of masterful." Sanders uses a "holistic" approach to discussing the comparision of religions. There is also a list of references Sanders uses to put his work together.
