Cook EPJCC 1993Michael J. Cook, "Review: Essential Papers on Judaism and Christianity in Conflict: From Antiquity to the Reformation." by Jeremy Cohen Journal of the American Oriential Society 113:2 (1993) 283-284.
Cohen's book is divided into four time periods in which Christian and Jewish Conflict were present. First, the Late Antiquity: This section discusses pre-Pauline Christianity, beginning separation of the two religions and origins of anti-semitism. The second section is the Middle Ages. Relations between medieval Christians and Jews, the Crusades, and medieval conceptions of Jews are all discussed in this section. Reformation is the third section, in which Luther's views of Jews and Catholic attitudes are written about. The last section is Jewish Repsonse. In this section religious segregation and Jewish economic interests are discussed. Cook does mention that there is some lack of cohesion, but this is normal when many papers are put together. Cook does state that this book is quite impressive in the choice of selections.
