Circumcision

Circumcision is the ancient physical practice of the cutting of the flesh of the foreskin of the male penis, which is usually done as a ritualistic religious practice by many groups since antiquity. However, it is probably most widely known from the biblical stories of the ancient Israelites beginning with Abraham Genesis 17:9-12.

In Justin Martyr's Dialogue with Trypho, a second century primary source document about how some in the early church sought to exert the supremacy of Christianity over Judiasm by their argumentative apologetics, Justin uses circumcision often to make his argument. For example in Dialogue 19, he argues that circumcision was a sign of the covenant and not necessary in making one righteous else where is the hope for such as Adam, Abel, Lot, Melchizedek, Enoch, and Noah, who were uncircumcised yet considered righteous.
