Charlesworth CJFSC 1992James H. Charlesworth, "Christians and Jews in the First Six Centuries" in Christianity and Rabbinic Judaism: A Parallel History of Their Origins and Early Development (Hershel Shanks ed., Washington D.C.: Biblical Archaeology Society, 1992) 305-326. (see also ShanksCJR1992).
Charlesworth's article is a nice summary to the history of both Jews and Christians in the early centuries of their co-existence. He explains that both religions felt strongly about their existence and what they stood for. Both had intense beliefs in the authenticity of writings and essentually who they were. Charlesworth discusses a variety of intertwining aspects of both religions including the canon, the apocryphal gospels, and the relations between churches and synagogues.
