Bellinzoni SADT

Arthur J. Bellizoni, "The Source of the Agraphon in Justin Martyr's Dialogue with Trypho 47:5," Vigiliae Christianae, 17:2 (1963) 65-70.
"Agrapha" can be defined as sayings of Jesus that do not appear in the canonical gospels. The author of this article states that there are two places in the Dialogue with Trypho where sayings attributed to Jesus do not have parallels in the text of the canonical gospels (Dial. 35:3b and Dial. 47:5). Bellizoni deals with one of these passages, 47:5. He claims that no saying such as this is attributed to Jesus in any of the patristic literature. However, there are three sources which attribute this saying directly to God through Ezekiel, but these sources were written after the composition of the Dialogue with Trypho. The author's ultimate conclusion is that Dial. 47:5 shares a common source with a writing by Clement of Alexandria?, and that the reason Justin attributed this saying to Jesus was due to his misinterpretation of the greek word for "Lord" to mean "Jesus."
The article is very readable and is a clear and systematic argument. However, a good understanding of the Greek language would definitely benefit the reader due to the author's discussion of Greek linguistics and sentence structure.
